I did not meet any travelers that recommended to go to Brisbane, but decided to go and see for myself, just for an afternoon. I found Southbank to be an enjoyable place, but other than that did not find the city particularly beautiful. Next day I awoke with a serious cold / small flu, and decided to stay in Brisbane a couple more days until feeling better.

Famous for its theme parks (which I was not interested in) and its partying (which I was similarly indifferent to). I nevertheless decided to check it out for a day or two. Somewhat in line with what I expected, Surfers’ Paradise was not really my cup of tea. Maybe I’m just getting old ;-)
I had agreed to meet up here with William, the brother of my former boss, Jettie. William, his son Tom and I spent time swimming at the beach (different waves than the North Sea here - do not let your guard down!), walking the long Gold Coast beaches, and eating out at a great italian diner with a waitress who spoke flawless Dutch - Antwerp dialect included!
Known only for 2 things: hippie life style and surfing, also for beginners. Last year in Fuerteventura, I did not manage to stay on the board for longer than a couple of seconds. But that would not be the end of it! Second try in Byron Bay, with success! Also a good vibe in the hostel here, ended up meeting some nice people, sad to leave this place.
I decided to spend some more days in Sydney, which were filled with delicious acai bowls, great walks (Bondi to Coogee!), beautiful sunsets and enjoyable nights with Maarten and Marilyn. All those that need some further explanations on the different types of flaps that can be used in plastic surgery, just shoot ;-)
